Krystin and Logan had a track meet last week.
Finally, a track meet that was close!
Close, being only an hour and 20 mins for me to get there.
It was actually pretty close to their school, so I attended!
Well, the weather has been gray, rainy and not too warm for weeks.
The day of the track meet it was humid, sunny, and DANGEROUS Air quality.
No joke. The air quality index was listed as Severe, which is the worst possible... Awesome.
There were warnings that you should avoid being outside if possible, and certainly avoid physical exertion.
PERFECT conditions to have a Track meet right?
The pictures are very fuzzy, due to air quality. Seriously.
I thought it was just fog, then it was pointed out to me that no, it is smog.
If you look closely the air is brown, all around you.
I had never seen anything like it. Crazy!
Krystin pre-meet with the coaches.
The team getting psyched up!
Kids warming up, and it shouldn't have taken long, because let me tell you it was was WARM.
stretching of course.
The AIS zone!
Strangely, sports are just really not a thing out here. I think there was maybe one other parent at the meet. Not even sure about that. Either way, the coaches were excited I was there and asked if I would mind helping time. I was happy to help! I haven't helped time a track meet forever!
While I did have the best view, it was hard to get pictures while timing track.
The events are so fast.
Normally, I can take a picture from this distance and zoom in and it is clear.
Not with the air that day.
Krystin is down there somewhere getting ready to run.
I was asked to time lane 5.
As chance would have it, when Krystin's 400 meter came time, she was in lane 5.
I asked if that was a problem.
They said no, because someone else is judging finishing places.
It didn't really matter.
There was no question.
She was first!
She also took first for her 100 meter!
She kicked BUTT!
It was fun to watch her, and ahem time her.
I love that the kids stretch before the races.
Where is Logan?
Well, don't worry he was there!
Hi, Lo!
He wasn't sure when his race would be, so he started warming up before 3pm, and didn't end up running until about 4:30pm. I was a bit worried he was dehydrated, and encouraged more hydration. Poor kid, but really it was HOT and sunny! Sun? What is that?
I will have you know it has been gone since!
Logan getting ready for his 1500 meter.
Now why they don't do a 1600 meter is beyond me?
1600 meter or 1 mile, as we know it makes sense.
I mean they run the 200, 400, and 800.
What is the deal with the 1500?
And they are off!
True to Logan form, he likes to let the opponents think they have a chance in the beginning.
Then he smokes them in the last two laps.
Crazy video of Logan crossing the finish line!
Go Logan!
Yes. He took first!
I have so missed cheering for these two!
Yah, they are kinda cute!
Friends are cool too.
Just a pic to show how bad the air quality was. This pic was directly at the sun. There were no clouds... Just smog all around us, which made it so you could look directly at the sun (although, I don't advise it!).
I sure love spending time with my kiddos.
