Athletics

Sports are SO different in Hong Kong.   They are considered more like a 'club'.   They aren't part of the school day, only after school and meet a couple times a week.   Definitely, not a priority.  Academics alone are the major focus.  The schools even require 7 classes, instead of 6 (and that is without a period for athletics).    It is a bit intense for those kids that are into sports.   Logan and Krystin enjoy running, which has really gone on the back burner since being out here.  They went from training 6 days a week, to being lucky to train 2 times a week.

Their school wasn't even sure they were going to have a track season this year, due to Coaching issues.  Finally, it was worked out, but by that time Krystin had signed up for soccer (Football out here).  Also, she was asked to participate in this Leadership program called TedX.  I will have to have her elaborate more on that. Ultimately, her first love is track and she has not been able to attend, yet!  Logan however has been able to.

Confused yet?  Me too.

Well, one thing that I love to do is support my kids in whatever they are doing, running, acting, playing sports, speaking in public, whatever.   However, out here it has been such a challenge.   The kids never know when or where the races/games are until the day of, and still they aren't sure.    Then the games can be anywhere in Hong Kong, so the coach will just tell them that parents can't attend, because it is too far...  GRRR    ....

Logan had a race this week.  I so wanted to go, but the coach told Logan it was too far and didn't give an address....    I don't think the coach was exaggerating Logan took the MTR home, rather than the school bus to the school then to MTR home.   He sent me the MTR map to show me where he was leaving from.   I added (hard to read) labels to show the distance.
Since I was not able to make it to the race, SADLY, I have no pics.  :(

Logan did very well, he took 3rd in the 1500 meter!

Great job, Logan!

Krystin, had to go to the TEDX meeting, so couldn't attend the race, but she did make the soccer game yesterday.

This was the first time Todd and I were able to attend a soccer game.  We were pretty excited.  It was near their school, which was helpful (only an hour commute each way!).

Here are some pics:
Did I mention?  It has been GRAY and Rainy for the last few weeks....
I miss the sunshine a bit. Usually, it says hi for a few hours a day, at least!
Not lately. It just feels constantly twilight and wet.  So, not helpful with jetlag.

The field.
The girls are tough!  They played in the rain, without complaint!

Logan wasn't feeling well, and he still escorted us and cheered for his sis!

Krystin doing her thing!

Haunted looking building peeking out at us!

Discussing with the coach her strategy for the next game!

 Number 27, Kayla's favorite number.  :)

Taking the Alleyways back to the school.

The kids noticed among the graffiti on this sign it said Tamara <3 i="">
No.  We didn't write it!

Well, hopefully, I will get to attend a Track meet and get some pictures.
Here's to trying to keep some sort of balance in life out here!
