A.I.S. - Back to school Night

Logan & Krystin
attend the
as I have mentioned before...

It is funny, when you hear the name
doesn't it make you think of a school
in the middle of Hong Kong
that is like a little bubble of American kids?
It is so NOT true!

American in the sense of curriculum, yes,
but as far as student population, not so much.
International is definitely the truth.
Which is AWESOME!

Students are mostly Asian or some Indian.
Asian from all OVER Asia,
and many have roots to one side of their family in the US
or even Canada, but were raised out here.

Many of the teachers are American,
but the principal I believe is Australian, which makes me laugh.
They do have teachers from around the world as well, though.
Logan's AP Calculus class is taught by a very French teacher, even.
We LOVE it! (:

Just like home,
after school had been up and running for a couple weeks,
there was a back to school night.

Logan & Krystin were asked to help that night.
To graduate they have to earn about 25 hours of service each year,
and they could earn 5 in one night!
Keep in mind they had been up since 5:30am (ish)...
and the night started at 6:30pm.

It was so cute to arrive and be welcomed by our kids!
(Yes, true to form we were super early.
Sorry Todd.I can't help it.)

While we were being told about the values of the school.
Essentially, developing potential and creating 'well-rounded' people...
Todd and I were struck by this site,
and reminded that while, yes this is an International school,
this is an American school.
Our kids still go to a school, where our flag flies...
Felt like a little piece of home....

The children started helping immediately after school,
and the night ran til about 8:45pm....
They hadn't had dinner yet,
or started on the hours of homework they had.
They are seriously tough kids.
They diligently tried to get stuff done on the train on the way home.

They both have very heavy loads academically,
and are constantly studying and working....

They also ran for elected positions in the school,
and WON.

Krystin and Logan both ran for Athletic Council executive positions.
Logan is the Treasurer.
Krystin is an Assistant President.
They have lots of great ideas they are
planning on utilizing to promote athletics.

They also participate in Cross Country
(which out here is considered a club, rather than part of the day),
and Anime club.

Which really leaves little time for much else!

Here is to a great year!
