Track- San Clemente Invite

With Track there are a few Invitationals

Not everyone in the team participates,
they are invite only.
The invites are based on the athletes with the fastest times.

The nice thing about Invitationals is you only have to be there for YOUR event.
The downside is if you have more than one event,
it is NOT near home, and you have to stay all day.
Especially, if you have TWO athletes...
and One has 4 events (the maximum allowed in one day)
Of course, 2 of the four events are the FIRST and Last everytime.

Then of course 2 in the middle for good measure, and the other athlete's events too.

Krystin LOVES Track.
She apparently loves Field too.
She hasn't been able to squeeze pole vaulting into her 4 event repertoire yet, but she intends too.
Logan loves Cross Country, so they balance each other out.

Here are some highlights from the 3-31-12
San Clemente Invitational
We were there from 8am-5pm
(actually running early should have been there til 6pm)....

This Meet was rescheduled from 2 weeks ago, due to rain.
Since, Saturday could possibly be a sleep in day I made SURE to check the weather online before bed.
No rain in the forecast.
I woke at 5am to the sound of popcorn popping, only it wasn't popcorn it was rain.

I pulled up weather.com, while LISTENING to the rain and still no rain in the forecast.
Hmn?  Either it was very wrong or my house was under the only cloud.

I checked my email.
Nope. No cancellation email from the coach.

So, we all got up and over to the San Clemente School by 8am.
Let me tell you how COLD it was (So Cal standards I know, like 50)
and it was raining!!!  Lightly though, but still enough to get everything wet within minutes...
and a little breeze and seriously cold.

First event: 9am
Krystin 's 1st event
4x100 relay!

 Here she comes

 Her team came in Second!
It was a FAST heat.
Krystin was able to hang most of the day with her friend Kaitlyn,
which made the long day fun

 Logan found them entertaining

awwwwe

 Think they were cold?

 Next event - Logan's 800 Open
(Varsity race)
He got a bit boxed in at the beginning

but, in the last stretch made up a lot of time!

Even with getting boxed in he was able to still get his current PR!

Then, Krystin's main Event - her THING -
The 400 Open (varsity)

trying to stay warm!

Getting ready to go!

A Very Fast Heat- She came in 3rd!
Her time was a little off her PR, but with the wind and cold! Amazing! (:

Logan was done running for the day,
so he enjoyed some Panda Express

This booth totally made me think of Hong Kong street vendors.

These three were there the entire day!

Krystin was invited by the Long Distance Coach (who happens to be her XC coach),
she runs short distance in Track
to participate in a Long/Short distance medley relay.
4 girls.  1200, 400, 800, 1600meters
Krystin ran the 400 meter leg.
She did awesome

After Krystin's third event she was NOT feeling super well.
Was it not getting much sleep?
Maybe the freezing cold or not really being able to eat much,
because of the spacing of the events.
She was seriously looking green... not good.
I thought we were going to end up skipping on the last event,
but she could NOT let her 4x400 relay team down.
(even if it wasn't scheduled for another 3 hours)

The Sun came out.

So we cheered for friends...

Logan invited me on a short hike up the mountain by the field.
Beautiful view.
and the SMELL of the flowers was overwhelmingly sweet.
The school is just across the street from the Ocean...
So beautiful.

The kids hung out, enjoyed the warmth of the sun
Krystin and Kaitlyn tried to find a way to both fit in ONE Chair.
(even though there were two)

Brayden had live entertainment while he ate.

Then, before long - it was time for the last event!
the 4x400 relay
Krystin 4th event of the day and THIRD 400meter

To pass the time Logan did core til he couldn't move anymore.
Made me laugh.
the canopy was already down before the last event.

 This is Krystin's event.
She has the fastest PR in the group,
so she is always what they call anchor (the last one in the relay)
So she can pick up time if needed, and usually the other team has their fastest girl as anchor too.
The relay team was AWESOME together,
and they TOOK First Place.
A great way to End the Day!
even if I was worried we might have lost Krystin for a second!
Yah, she quickly was fine again though, phew!

Nothing like working hard to earn your bling with good friends.

After, even though, we were all pretty exhausted...
We went to Costco for dinner to celebrate (I know, pretty spiffy)
and then went to the movies.
We saw, "Mirror, Mirror."
I am undecided if I like it.
Maybe I just love my fairy-tales unchanged...
I don't know.
I did LOVE the costumes!
Oh, and we stopped by the house really quick and grabbed our Kay to celebrate with us!

All-in-all a great day.
Only thing that would have made it better is having our Daddoo with us... :(
