Hong Kong - Family Style (2)

Day 2

Rise and Shine!
Time to have some FUN!

Krystin saw this little French Sandwich that she had heard about from her French teacher.  It is a breakfast sandwich, an she was anxious to try it.
It was some sort of Ham, bread, and strangely cheese on the outside thing.
She approved!

Dragon Fruits are contraban here in the US,
so we wanted the kids to try one while they could!
There are different types, apparently.
I didn't know.  I thought they all had white fruit with speckled black seeds in them
Kinda like a sushi roll with black sesames, but fruit and on the inside.
Yummy, not too sweet, but good.
Imagine my shock when we discovered the Bright RED Flesh inside
Man does that stuff stain too.
Pink finger tips for sure!
The kids loved it... (:
We accidentally, almost smuggled one in the country.
Story for another day....

Anyhow, Average temps this time of year are usually in the mid/low 70s
When we went the high for the entire time was around 63.

We planned on setting out to hike Lamma Island that morning,
and were actually worried it would be too cold!
TOO COLD?! In Hong KONG! LOL!

the kids thought it was funny that the trees had 'armpit hair'
or would that be 'treepit' yah don't know.

 It was VERY GRAY....

Brave fisherman, out there in the middle of HUGE Vessels!
 We made it!

It was fun to show the children a world unlike any they had seen before...

and which FISH would you like to eat?

Street side Waffle Vendors - a MUST!
Hmn, should we get a FISH Ball, squid on a stick or a Waffle???
Yup, waffles with margarine and honey.

Ok, I have great difficulty keeping a fish alive in an aquarium.
Here they can quite well, even in a bowl in the walk way.

Happy pups litter the street...

Kayla's Shop?
Her favorite food - cheese!  Ha
The girls were entranced with all the shopping.

kids found their new home - Bookworm cafe! Haa

Logan looks cautiously into the Temple

We had a slight problem with a water bottle that went down.
Logan jumped over the rail to rescue it.

We took an interesting detour through the scenic path looking for the hiking trail.
Yes, Todd and I have hiked it before, but yah.. where did it go?

 No worries!  We found it!

Our runners could not be slowed down by us!

Even, Kayla left us in the dust.
 Local children at play

 Monkeys

A different world

I swear she made that EXACT face when she was a baby!

After hiking (a short distance)
you arrive at this pristene beach.
SO peaceful and beautiful.

Kids will be kids.
Mom: "Logan, your shoes are going to get wet, come closer."
Logan:  "No they wont!"

Mom: "HAA HAA"

then the path gets steep...
and long
and very high

this dog was so cute!
I couldn't stop myself from snapping a shot!
(and believe it or not, I have only posted a FEW of the many dog pics I took.  I might have a slight problem.)

Me and my Kay

If you squint and look for little dots in the distance,
yah, that would be Lo and Kryst.
Their feet were on fire!
zoom
I love Lamma Island
What a beautiful serene hike.
Even it makes me much more fully aware
of how out of shape I am than I would prefer.

Encouraging us on

Daddy and Kay

Hmn, were they pointing and laughing?

My kids are NOT camera shy.
I bet you couldn't tell!

He really couldn't get much cuter!
Love this man!

It is pretty awesome to have your bestfriend also be your partner in life.
Makes the journey sooo much better.

While the rest of us (minus Kryst) were catching our breath.
I mean taking in the breath taking view...
Logan was finding any sort of trail to race up and down on.
See how far away he was...
Zoom , zoom

Seriously, born to run!

Kayla normally doesn't like hiking, but she did amazing!
I think she might have even enjoyed it! (:

My hiking buddies

as the trail comes to an end it meandors through old village houses...
and YES, there was a cute pup waiting for us!

I couldn't stop laughing.
The kids were busting up,
because the trash can said
"BEWARE Of the Shaft!"
No CLUE that even means...

Love these guys
They are SO cute!

and seriously funny

But this guy is my FAVE

Kay was enthralled by the HUGE leaves.
Local school

Scary cave
I asked them to look afraid
THEY AREso funny.
Totally crack me up.
Thanks for humoring me kiddos.  love you

almost there...

almost there?

Really.
We are almost done.

Woo - Made IT!

We ate dinner at the Rainbow Restaurant,
and headed back as the sun was beginning to set in the sky...

But NOT before enjoying a tasty treat
that you cannot get in the US
Seriously, Hagaan Daaz (sp?) these are the bomb!
It was pretty chilly by this time, so we were happy to get a spot in the boat. Not outside

Go back to the Hotel?
Cause we are exhausted?!!
I think NOT!

The night is still young.

Down town Kowloon here we come.

potty stop.

Metro.  trains.  yah

Then we arrived in Downtown Kowloon.
Our destination
Temple Street - Night Market

The girls, I think, would have stayed there forever.
We were there for I believe almost three hours!
Oh my.  It is pretty amazing though.

Super fun, long day! (:
